Piano Lessons was the focus of a panel discussion featuring myself, Michael Redhill (Giller Prize-winning author), Dr. Morris Moscovitch (Max and Gianna Glassman Chair in Neuropsychology and Aging: Psychology professor, University of Toronto; Senior Scientist, Rotman Research Institute) and Cheryl Grady (Canada Research Chair in Neurocognitive Aging; Psychology and Psychiatry professor, University of Toronto; Senior Scientist, Rotman Research Institute).

I offered a public screening of Piano Lessons.

April 27, 2018 – Creating Spaces VIII: Fostering Critical Thinking through the Arts and Humanities

I screened Piano Lessons at Dalhousie University for the Creating Spaces conference, and gave a talk entitled “Piano Lessons: A Short Film Based on Alice Munro’s “Insight of the Lake” from the Collection Dear Life.”

March 24, 2018 – Beyond the Brain: A Multidisciplinary Conference on Neurodegenerative Diseases

As part of the conference, I screened Piano Lessons and gave a talk entitled “Adapting Alice Munro’s “In Sight of the Lake” into the Short Film Piano Lessons: A Literary Approach to Dementia.”

February 2, 2018 – FOOT 2018 – Supporting Bodies/Changing Minds

Piano Lessons screened during the The Festival of Original Theatre, the annual conference held by the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto. The theme for the 2018 edition of the festival is “Supporting Bodies/Changing Minds.”

November 5, 2017 – Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival

Piano Lessons screened as part of the 25th anniversary of the festival, presented by Workman Arts, which investigates the facts and mythologies surrounding mental health and addiction issues through work by both Canadian and international filmmakers. It screened in the “Women on the Verge: Global Shorts on Women’s Experience” programme of short dramatic films about women’s experiences with madness and recovery.
